Foreign Trade Zone

Foreign Trade Zone

The Port of Davisville’s proximity to Canada made a Foreign Trade Zone a natural progression.

NORAD has established and maintains a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) to allow for in bond entry into Canada without paying duty to the United States.

There are currently two means of accessing Canada through NORAD to avoid paying U.S. duty on the Canadian cargo. The first is an in transit bond where the cargo is quickly moved through the port with no change in value to the car, this requires one USCBP entry in the port. The Foreign Trade Zone allows for unlimited time in the port along with the option to perform work to the vehicles. In this scenario there are two messages sent to USCBP electronically that tell them when the cargo entered the FTZ and when it left in bond for delivery to Canada. All this can easily be handled through a licensed Customs Broker.
